One-stop general contractor for the Houston metro. Design, build, permits, MEP — all in-house.
Most contractors do either commercial or residential, and most outsource permits and MEP. We own the entire stack — one accountable team and one named project manager instead of three or four contracts to chase.
Why one accountable team beats three contracts
Every handoff between a separate architect, permit expediter, MEP subs, and a general contractor is a chance for the schedule to slip and the budget to grow. When those are separate contracts, conflicts surface in the field as change orders and finger-pointing. We fold design, permits, and the mechanical/electrical/plumbing trades into one schedule, run by one team that’s answerable for the whole result.
That’s the rare position in this market: a full-service general contractor that does both commercial and residential work and keeps permits and MEP in-house instead of subbing them out and walking away.
Three steps. One accountable team.

Scope, budget & schedule
A written scope with transparent pricing and a real schedule built backward from your deadline. Permits and MEP included — no hidden change-order games.
We build it — one accountable team
One named project manager runs the trades, the permits, and the inspections through to certificate of occupancy or final punch list. You always know where things stand.
The four pillars we own in-house
Permit Expediting & City Compliance
We pull and chase your City of Katy and Harris/Fort Bend permits so plan review and inspections don't stall your opening date.
MEP Coordination (Mechanical / Electrical / Plumbing)
In-house management of the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing trades — the coordination that makes or breaks a buildout schedule and budget.
Design-Build & Architecture Coordination
One contract for design and construction — architecture, engineering, and the build coordinated by a single team, which is usually faster than design-bid-build.
Owner's Rep / Construction Management
We represent your interests on a project someone else is building — reviewing budgets, schedules, change orders, and quality so you're not flying blind.

One-stop general contractor FAQs
What is a one-stop general contractor?
A one-stop general contractor handles the entire project under a single contract — design and architecture coordination, the building permits, the mechanical/electrical/plumbing trades, the schedule, and the build itself — instead of leaving you to hire and manage those separately. Tanglewood Construction coordinates all of it in-house across the Houston metro, so you have one accountable team and one named project manager rather than three or four contracts pointing at each other.
Why hire one team for design, build, permits, and MEP instead of separate contractors?
Because every handoff between a separate architect, permit expediter, MEP subs, and a general contractor is where projects lose time and money. When those are separate contracts, conflicts surface in the field as expensive change orders and finger-pointing. With one accountable team, constructability and budget are built into the design from day one, the permits and MEP fold into the same schedule, and there is one point of contact answerable for the whole result.
Does Tanglewood Construction really coordinate MEP and permits in-house?
Yes — in-house MEP coordination and permit expediting are the core of our model, not work we sub out and walk away from. We vet and schedule the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing trades, run clash detection before rough-in, assemble and chase the City of Katy and Harris/Fort Bend permit packages, and sequence inspections ourselves. That single-team control is what keeps the schedule and the budget honest.
What kinds of projects does the one-stop model work best for?
It works best for commercial owners and brokers handling shopping-center and retail buildouts, office and medical tenant improvements, and ground-up commercial — where a missed handoff between trades costs weeks — and for homeowners doing larger remodels and additions who don't want to manage subs themselves. Anytime design, permits, and multiple trades have to land in the right order, one accountable team beats stitching together separate contracts.
Is Tanglewood Construction licensed and insured across the Houston metro?
Texas does not issue a state general-contractor license, so there is no such number to hold. Credibility for a Texas GC comes from City of Katy contractor registration, the licensed mechanical/electrical/plumbing subcontractors we coordinate, general-liability and workers'-comp insurance, bonded crews, a named project manager on every job, and a clean Harris/Fort Bend permit record. We provide our registration and insurance details on request.
What parts of the Houston metro do you serve?
We're based in Katy and serve the west Houston metro — Cinco Ranch, Cypress, Fulshear, Richmond, Sugar Land, Memorial / Energy Corridor, and west Houston — with broader Houston-metro reach on commercial projects. The one-stop model travels well because the same in-house team handles design, permits, and MEP wherever the project is.
